Hey, welcome to RCC. I know you'll get lots of advice for whatever you need so don't be shy and enjoy the site. I'm not a plane guy but have thought about it from time to time. From my research, a high wing is what you're looking for but which one is beyond me.

Re: Newbie from Brantford

My 2cents being new to the rc plane hobby myself..
Start with electric; either EFlite Apprentice or Flyzone Beaver. The Beaver is kind of nie since it comes with both wheels and floats.
In all honesty though, make the investment in a quality flight sim. I started out with Phoenix (which comes with a real working radio for anything you may build on your own in the future) its a nice sim with free updates as new planes and helis are released for it
That's about all I have for advise for now ... Enjoy the RCC... I certainly do

Re: Newbie from Brantford

My suggestion is to purchase a simulator. With a simulator you have the option of planes and helicopters. You could also check with local flying fields or local hobby shops. Paris Junction Hobbies in Paris, Ontario, is a good place to start.

Re: Newbie from Brantford

I learned to fly with a Parkzone Vapor. Great little plane and its very forgiving of crashes. You can fly it in a very small space.... I routinely fly in my backyard or even indoors in the large meeting room at my office. Only downside is it can only be flown in little to no wind.

The Brant Electric Flyers are running indoor events at Syl Apps arena in Paris on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Check their Facebook page or call Paris Junction Hobbies for details. A PZ Vapor RTF would be just the ticket to get started with some indoor flying this winter. This will give you some great hands on flying before moving to a larger plane.

As for a bigger electric trainer... The Parkzone Supercub DSM RTF is probably the most popular beginner plane on the market. The ease of flying and readily available replacement parts make it a good choice.

Re: Newbie from Brantford

Buy dollarstore foamboard and build a trainer, crash and beat the crap out of it..... spend another buck 25 and build another !
I have the Smart Dart XS sitting here, waiting for a decent flyday to maiden it.
Built from dollarama foamboard, paper off, covered in packing tape.
There are hundreds of free plans around, that i can use with 1 set of motor/esc etc.... keeps things from getting boring and building them is fun, especially in the winter. I also have a foam F-22 and mikeysRC trainer sitting here.
Wet today, but still hopeful of getting out before xmas
