Best Second Airplane

Guys,

Got the champ after some advice from this forum and now I'm back! I loved the Champ and now it's time to go bigger!

I am looking at a larger 4 channel (+) aircraft in the 4-5ft wingspan range and in the $300-$600 range.

I am a heli guy of moderate skill and I have been siming the aircraft, so I believe I have the skills to handle the aircraft.

What are you recommendations? The guys at my club are pushing me to go nitro, but I like electric as well.

Re: Best Second Airplane

My second plane was the P-51 from parkzone. Nice handling plane, quick and looks great in the air. The only drawback is the lack of landing gear, although belly landing isn't all that bad. I like electric, pretty simple and no issues with keeping the motor tuned. Plus it can be flown almost anywhere.

Re: Best Second Airplane

Depending on your preference, the Apprentice makes a great first airplane...good manners and will do loops, rolls, etc. on high rates. It's electric and uses inexpensive lipo's. Unfortunately it comes with a Spektrum 5 ch radio which is very basic, but it works. If you already have a more advanced Spektrum or JR, you could bind up and away you go. Maybe donate the radio to your club as a training buddy box.

Re: Best Second Airplane

I went with a SIG 4*60 and a Saito 100, never had a problem tuning and the SIG kits are a joy to build, the 4*40 is also a dream to fly and would be less expensive to electrocute.
but nothing beats the noise of a four stroke.
And considering you are a club member why not make some noise whilst you still can, and if you need a bit of help with the tuning I'm sure they would be glad to help..

Another recommendation for the Pulse. I went with the 125 and a DLE 20 gas engine, but from what I've seen and heard all of the sizes are good flyers.

Re: Best Second Airplane

You didn't really specify if you wanted something scaleish, electric or not. If you are looking for something fun to fly but not a "3D" ship then I would recommend a Super Sportster. You can get these in 40, 60 and 120 size. In fact I think there is a good deal going on a 120 size with a DLE gasser in the classifieds.

If you are looking for something to learn 3D on I would highly recommend Swany's house profiles. Either a MOJO or Primo - the Mojo is a better 3D plane but the Primo is more stable in harriers type flying.

One problem here is you have to build.

If you want a good profile and want an arf, the Sabre 47 is excellent:

At 120 bucks US its hard to go wrong.

Re: Best Second Airplane

My preference would to buy a progresive trainer or an airplane that is forgiving but still looks good like the hanger 9 p-51 pts or the .40 sport version because bolth are afordable and easy to fly. If you like electric than I would go with parkzone p-51 or the t-28 trogen because of it's easy flying and low cost. Do not be cheap on your radio because it should last you along time. For a radio I would recomend a futaba 9c super or a spectrum DX7 or equivelent.
