Suitable radio.

Have decided to upgrade from a SIG Riser 100 and a Radian to a full house Grafas glider, Thinking also to upgrade my transmitter from an original DX7 to something a bit better.
The choices I have looked at are a Spektrum DX8 or DX18, or a JR 9503.
I have no desire to go with Futaba or Hitec so forget those.
Would like to hear informed input from all you Glider pilots.
Thanks Perp.
The only "stupid question" is the one you don't ask.

Re: Suitable radio.

I have a DX8 and 2 full house elec gliders. The DX8 gives me all the options I want and is relatively easy to program.

Re: Suitable radio.

I was in the same boat, same choices, Needed a radio for full house glider with flight modes and such. Did a lot of reading and comparisons. DX8 has no sliders or sailplane programming, yes it can be done, sort off, but it is a compromise just like DX7. Spectrum and JR just will not design a radio where you can assign channels to what you want, sad. DX18 has sailplane programing but also has limitations as do the rest and not proven yet in glider world. Finally settled on used JR 9503, it is still used by many world class sailplane pilots and much is available on line for sail programming. It of course has limitations like the rest, but it is the most widely used JR ( along with 9303 ) by the world's best along with Airtronics SD-10G. Used market has some great bargains on 9503. It is frustrating that gliders are mostly ignored by the manufacturers. I will hang on to it for a bit and see what new shakes out in the next year or so. Good luck in your quest.
