Re: David Windestal FPVs to the 'Edge of Space

Not sure where Dave did this flight. i know several folks whom have done balloon flight like this now, over the past 18 months or so. Several on the prairies. In some cases they have acquired TC or FAA approval (or equiv in their region), and they claim to specifically inform air traffic authorities also, plus did the launch well outside the charted airways and air routes (between VORs). I do not know they did this, just read that they claimed to have.

But in another balloon flight video (not FPV plane) when they looked at their HD footage they have video of a jetliner streaking by only a few hundred metres away at 40k ft! The moviemaker did claim their had FAA approval too, but who knows.

An FPV guy in Summerland is going to be doing one of these FPV balloon launches soon in conjunction with a public school class - the school had already planned it and asked him for help.

I don't know the details and have no desire to to this - also impossible to do it here due to air traffic.
