Fai funding

Recently there has been a lot of talk about additional funding from maac for fai.
Just a thought but here is a suggestion.
I assume these guys hold events and competitions like imac, I know that from these events the cd submits $3 for each competitor to mini imac. The average contest fee is usually $30 why not increase the fee to say $35, you could then submit this extra $5 to a competition fund. Therefore raising funds for your own discipline to use to support or supplement any funding received from maac. This is something I think would be acceptable to all parties.
As your not asking other non interested members of maac to fund you, but really finding out if there is interest in your discipline.

Re: Fai funding

I really think Alan hit the nail on the head. I can't imagine anyone not willing putting 5or 10 buck's out to support a national team. But It would be hard to fund someone in a not well supported discipline who was competing in that discipline because it was an easy way to be on a national team. I do not know the format of the fia completion but in Olympic sport if a country does not have a strong national program in a particular sport they cannot send a rep in that sport. as in back in the day "eddy the eagle" or the 'Jamaican bobsled team".

Re: Fai funding

Hi Allen and Wilf,

Great Ideas.

The 2nd 3rd 4th pilots who do not make the FAI Canadian Team, will help the winner. It is respect. (and tough to get to that FAI level!)

As far as I know, 'traditionally' the Maac funds were help for transporting the planes...

Take care,
Have fun,

Re: Fai funding

I like this idea. For those who don't know, next year is the first inaugural World IMAC competition that will be held in Muncie Indiana. Each country is allowed NINE competitors per class from Sportsman to Unlimited. That's a potential team of 28 pilots alone! Funding will be a huge issue here in Canada for up to 40 or more people if you count support, judges and callers etc.
We are having a big meeting next week in Guelph to discuss strategies and other items including funding.
The response has been tremendous for what this is doing for IMAC with a record number of contests, seminars and people trying this for the first time. Anybody who says competition doesn't help the average joe has their head stuck in the sand. This is what drives innovation and development of ever better radios, engines and airplanes and we all benefit.
