I hear ya! Kits seem to be turning into a "garage" industry. The big companies are switching to ARFs or going out of business.

Maybe??? But put yourself in the model shop owners position. You have to sell what sells. One can be a true modeller and stock only kits and wood and not sell to the 14 yr old with money in their hand and see how long you last.
Lead, follow or get out of the way!

Well let me tell you I had never had a radio in my hand nor flowen anything until I got my super cub. Well on my own in a large field I launched it ( no knowlege and 60 yrs old) and that plane was over steared and crashed a dozen times. If I had been 14 in a park with very little knowlage of CG ect I could have hurt someone. Now a days they have the money to buy what ever they see in the store. At age 60 I am very thank full I did not buy that 60 inch 3d plane that looked so nice because I can well afford it (only 2 hrs to set up ?). Is there any reason I should be at least of legal age to start this hobby (flying). Carss could be for 14 years and up but not a Helli or plane.
The 14 year olds today generally have plenty of experience/stick time built up on micro helis and micro planes first these days. Also innumerable PC simulators. When they throw their 40 inch Easystar in the air for the first time, they will fly better than any adult at a MAAC field and a couple hours Wings training. Kids learn these coord skills super fast. Of course that doesn't mean they have the maturity to avoid putting others at risk with their EDF jets!
