Would using something like a matchbox and its separated power source circuit be the way to go?

Re: Just a heads-up about a BEC and electric retracts issue

I tried using a second BEC to run the receiver with the original powering the retracts (per JCs Lado schematic). It worked but the EDF would fluctuate as the retracts were cycled. I ended up eliminating the BEC that was built into the ESC and ran the new separate BEC to power everything. Have set it to 6v and the voltage never drops into the red like it did previously. I'm hoping the 2.4 brownouts are thing of the past! Checked my Mirage and F16 and they both were going into the red zone when the gear was cycled (with the ESCs built in BEC). Added separate BECs and they now keep proper voltage during electric retract operation.
Moral of the story, is check your radio voltage during operation of retracts and other high demand devices too see if your power supply can handle it, especially with 2.4 radio systems.
In the future, I will always install a separate BEC and order the ESCs without any internal BEC (since all of my models will have electric retracts).
Zen thinking * It's rebuildable till it fits back in the box. **
