Re: Top Flite P-39, Gold Edition

I actually got talked out of the kit late this summer. I've been converting over to gas, a whole lot less fuss, and bigger just always seems to fly better. I've currently got the TF Corsair, with a 20cc gasser, Goldberg Sukhoi, same engine, and a Giant Aeromaster with a 60cc, and Dynaflite Super Decathlon, with 26cc. All fire up instantly, and are great flyers. Working on Dave Platt Spit, 109, and FW 190, all 1/5th scale, TF Giant P-51, a 1/5th Pica WACO, Bucker Jungmeister, TF P-40, all will be gas as well. A 1/4 scale P-39 would be very, very cool.

Re: Top Flite P-39, Gold Edition

So, change of plans, haven't seen the P-39 since Dec 14, but it's headed back to my shop! I really regretted selling, and now, with space going to be much tighter in a year's time, with retirement to a travel trailer, touring around North America, the Top Flite 60 sized warbirds allows for a few more planes, less space. Standby for pics of what I'd done when I was first building it, and what the plans will be!

Re: Top Flite P-39, Gold Edition

very cool Dave I still have my old faithful and may do an over haul on it and add some retracts she has been a great flying plane for me for many years and i am sure you will love the way it handles in the air just remember keep the nose up a little on landing . Also i did mine old school with coverall and dope and paints was a joy to build even though it was my first war bird build and my first top flight kit .

Re: Top Flite P-39, Gold Edition

I've been looking back through old build threads. From what I remember, fuse and tail are pretty much done, but not glassed, wings are sheeted, eflite retracts in, but not glassed. Still trying to decide on scheme, but a couple of ideas. Soviet P-39 in winter white, or US P-39 in Africa, has a medium blue underside, camo top, lots of markings, so very visible in the air.

Re: Top Flite P-39, Gold Edition

Love the Sea Fury, Dan. One of my favorite builds was a TF Gold Edition Sea Fury, sold it, then last year, a buddy of mine bought it, brought it back to me to finish, in Iraqi Air Force markings, with RCGF 20cc gasser. First maiden this spring, after re-finishing.
