Yes, I agree especially when we consider how much bigger the balsa stuff is.

That said, we do take our balsa ones out and torture them on the weekends...

Re: Top Flite P-39, Gold Edition

Detailing seems to go up and down, if you look at some of the kits of old, tons of detail info, the Dauntless kit I had even had all the tie-downs for the canvas cover they'd put over the canopy area, all the canopy sections moved, yet the only ready made part, was the Williams brothers bullets! Fully detailed and operating flaps, dive brakes, bomb release, and all that on a 60 sized bird. You'd think ARF's would have a lot more detail, but not the case it seems. Higher end jet turbines, now they're really coming along with scale details. I think too, it's the level of passion for that aircraft by the builder. The P-39 has always intrigued me, and not a lot of them flying around at R/C events, so figure it deserves a bit more detail.

Re: Top Flite P-39, Gold Edition

Felt like working on the wing today, so got the aileron and flap servos installed, the EFlite retracts, and the .50 cal gun pods. Wheel wells are rough cut, hope to get those done tomorrow, check wheel clearance. Ailerons are just about ready to cover and install, flaps are glassed, ready to hinge. Won't be long, and the wing will be ready for panel lines, hatches, and paint!

Re: Top Flite P-39, Gold Edition

Finally getting some progress on the finishing! Today I masked off the canopy, and got the first coat of sand on. Still some sanding/filling to do around the tail, but she's looking more and more like an Airacobra!

Re: Top Flite P-39, Gold Edition

Sand and Dark Earth are done on the wing, along with the black walkway. Still have a pair of yellow recognition stripes to go! Fuse is finally all sanded, and the Sand has been sprayed, so now it's time to mark off for the yellow stripe on the fuse, and the Dark Earth.

Re: Top Flite P-39, Gold Edition

Done for the night, but got the upper wing surfaces all painted, and all of the left side of the fuselage. A bit of dark earth to spray on the right side, as well as the yellow recognition stripe. Then it's the Azure Blue for the belly.
