Well I finally made it out to Wingham . I really got to meet a bunch of awesome guys always willing to help and support you with your first jet. Thanks to Sandro and Blair for taking the time to go over everything and make sure everything was perfect. Thanks To Trevor for finishing all the things I hate to do . If the guys I met this weekend are the guys in our Jet community I am definitely addicted!!!!!

Re: Aviation Design - Scorpion

Awesome results Peter! What was you final AUW? The K140 was adequate? We're you able to be the balance ok with just the batteries? Where did they end up?

Decided to stop polishing and start actually installing the gear and get this crate flying so I can actually call it and airplane. . Got through the compounding stage and will polish and wax when its complete if I have time before Kentucky Jets..., but I figured I don't want to be rushed at the end installing stuff...

Re: Aviation Design - Scorpion

Looks awesome Sean! You did a spectacular job of the paint

I'll have Peter's Scorpion back in my shop in a couple days for some programming tweaks to his 18MZ following the maiden.... I'll put his on the scales at that time.

We'll need to wait from him to comment on the CG, but the batteries are all up in the nose of his... (1) 3S 3800 LiFe for turbine + (2) 2S 2500 LiFe for Cockpit SRS.

Cheers

Trev

Re: Aviation Design - Scorpion

Hi Trev!!!

C.G is Perfect!! No requirement for anything, other that adding more up elevator in the programming when the flaps are at "FULL" only. everything else is fine.

Cheers

Re: Aviation Design - Scorpion

Awesome!! I'm meeting Peter today - he's got some suggestions of where to put certain switches for his liking. He also mentioned the elevator and I think the BVM smooth stop brake valve needs to be set-up.

Re: Aviation Design - Scorpion

Thanks Trev.
I put the gear in and did a test balance so I could locate the batteries, etc.
I have the ECU life pack in front of the tank and the two A123 packs beside the nose retract.
I used 159g of lead to simulate the kero in the CAT and with that balanced I'm at 28lbs.
I'm thrilled with that as I thought I'd be closer to 30 with the extra (amateur) paint job.
I should have the install completed tonight and ready to program the throws and test run it in the driveway tomorrow.
It only took 2 days to do the install as I had already done a bunch of planning and tray work before paint.

Re: Aviation Design - Scorpion

Nice Sean!!!

For balancing, I simulated the weight of the full UAT like you did! I then adjusted the batteries until it would slowly fall onto the front gear when it was in a wheely position with tail touching the ground. This is what the folks on the RCU forums suggested and I'm glad it worked out!! Coincidentally, that's the exact same way it was recommended for Peter's FlyEagle BAE Hawk

Excited to see your maiden!!

Trev

Re: Aviation Design - Scorpion

Did that correspond to the 155mm CG recomendation? That is where mine is currently set.

I honestly don't know Sean! I just followed the advice to balance it like that and never checked against the 155mm! For reference, it'd be interesting if you could check what your's does when put in a wheelie
