E-flite extra 260 tough to land

To any and all E-flite Extra 260 flyers:

My Extra 260 is a real handful to land. Seems to be very unstable at even modest speeds. Tip stalls easily.
What am I doing wrong?
Could the C of G be at fault?

CG too far forward = flies like shft
CG too far back = flies once

how many planes/years have you flown RC?

Re: E-flite extra 260 tough to land

The CG is prolly too far aft, the recommended CG is only a starting point on any aircraft, you usually have to move the battery forward and back till you find the sweet spot.

Re: E-flite extra 260 tough to land

That 260 does not fly slow. It does tip stall if landing to slow. We had a guy at our club, drop from 3-4ft on landing more times than I can count. His cg was fine, fir normal flying. We kept telling him to fly it, not glide it on landing. He finally did, and its all good now. I think he decided to never go below about 1/8 throttle on approach.

Re: E-flite extra 260 tough to land

Lots of good advice above:

- Move CG a bit forward

- land with some power

- fly right to the ground or maybe 3 to 4 inches above

- flare (add just a little up elevator) just before touching down

- add more (30% or more) exponential on elevator. (+30 for Spektrum/JR; -30 for Futaba)

Mine flies like a dream just doesn't like the grass runway unless the grass is cut short. I run 3s 2200 and they end up pushed up against the wing tube.
