Alternate to bungee or hand laumch?

I've been thinking of alternatives to bungee launch systems.
How about using a fishing rod and a length of twine to "Whip" the model?
Or like in control line speed use a dolly that drops away from the plane at lift off?
My new BD5j is going to be around 3000 grams with a 90mm fan.
That went well

Hi Mike, I've seen a dolly "try" to work several times. You need a fair amount of engineering to get it to work. Your plane has to be way over powered to push the dolly and the plane down your runway. If its grass, there is more rolling resistance, plus the dolly also has to have a positive angle of attack so the airplane will take-off from the dolly, not push it down.

The dolly I saw was being used for a foamy U2, eventually it was hand tossed, and flew fine.

Good luck. Daren

I think bungee launch is probably the most tried and true method. It works and it works well when needed. Fishing rod sounds kind of hokey and it seems more likely that something will go wrong.

Hand launch is still my preferred method. Provided you have a thrower that knows what he is doing

I had a dolly system- yeah- it was a pain to get it to track straight and launch correctly. Ended up hand-launching it more than I ever used the dolly because hand-launching was more reliable.

What about building a ramped launching system, kind of like this one...
