We were pushing the limits of the bungee JC had about 30lbs - We tried full power with full up on elevator using high rates to boot - even tried a hand launch off the bungee

Yeah probably not enough juice... What I've done previously is double up the bungee... So if you have a single strand going from launcher to stake, double the bungee onto itself, ie: one big loop. It gives it a really snappy acceleration, so you've gotta be prepared! There's also a fair amount of pucker factor when you're stretching it out past the 30# mark!

Ken we use launch carts with the heavy birds, not only does it break ground drag but it also holds the nose up during the pull so that the jet is flying mid way through the pull. The cart then just falls away . Models by John also uses a similar rig on his Arrow if you remember. Sorry to hear the L39 is "in the shop".
