CG. Mostly because I feel that planes that are right on the CG (with a few exceptions) or slightly tail heavy, don't track properly, don't lock the lines either and it becomes more evident in the snap rolls. They will hover and torque roll just fine too.

As for the up right or inverted flat spins, I have my plane setup (YAK54 40%) with 45 degrees of elevator and 45-48 degrees or rudder.
These two surfaces are pined throughout the maneuver and then there is a balance between opposite aileron and power management. It applies to both up right and inverted flat spins.

Too nose heavy airplanes don't fly properly, too tail heavy airplanes, only fly once.


I agree each airframe is different you have to play with each one and find the cg that works best for it and your style of flying.

I always go with the recomended cg then adjust to your liking after a couple of flights

Yup, I definitely need to get off the farm more! I wrote off the first S-Bach I had. Bought it used and no paperwork, except for the tape on the wings with the CG marked. Ummmm, would have been neat to know the previous owner was a IMAC Champ and pretty darn good at 3D!!!

Some planes just don't flat spin well no matter what you do. There are two words for that type of plane
"For Sale". If it doesn't its no fun.
I bought one like that last year, had it so tail heavy everyone was hiding behind me when I was landing, even used the ignition kill to force the option of aborting into a non option. Upright, inverted, didn't matter it just sucked, sold, bye bye, gone...

LMAO I can just picture the crew cowering behind you! Just got in from my first ever IMAC Basic practice. Each flight (3) I had time left on the timer, practiced flat spins w more throttle. Nope. Same deal, slight nose down attitude.

The CG is nose heavy, based on the two methods mentioned here last night. Guess moving some weight around in the fuse is in order. Right after Calgary!!!!

Stay out of the tree's.

For me lately, it's avoid the trout pond.

As for serious suggestions Brent. Just fly, lots. Keep the danger factor low unless the crowd is worthy.

I used to have an Sbach from RedwingRC, beautiful inverted flat spins...
On trick may also be to ensure the plane is actually stalled in the maneuver otherwise you just fly around in really tight circles

I've been starting with a stall turn (hammerhead), Get it spinning with the ailerons, and apply full elevator and rudder. Maybe I'm too slow at getting on the Elevator and rudder.

It's harder to get flat if you do full hammerhead and start vertical nose down.
Try it level, pull power, slight up elev. it will tip stall. When it does, apply full rudder toward the wing that dips and full up elev. it will all happen slower. From there you have to find the sweet spot on the ail and throttle.
