Part of the answer and difference from our planes to full scale is likely related to power to weight ratio. Our versions are likely somewhat over powered as compared with their full scale counterparts. We generally don't need full throttle except in vertical uplines.

In any case, noise is a judged parameter in IMAC and is really about field preservation. We have lost a number of contests in Ontario and some are directly related to noise footprint. A lot of folks have moved to the country for some peace and quiet and don't appreciate model airplane noise when they are hoping for tree frogs and crickets !

If you do get to venture down into Washington state to attend any of their contests you will see the efforts that are put into noise reduction.

That is great. Thanks for the education. I would never put anyone or any field in jeopardy. New to this whole thing so it is good to get the info. thank you.

Re: Noise Reduction Strategies

My personal interest in keeping my planes quiet is a little different than most... I simply like things that way.

While I do like the sound of the engine (With a nice muffler) I do not like to hear the wheels, canopy, cowl and everything else rattling around.
Flying by and being able to hear the wind rush off the wing really is amazing to me.
