I just got the notification from the president of one of the clubs that I belong to. The real kicker is that I'm am the specified recipient for MAAC e-mails on the MAAC website, so I'm not sure what mailing list is being used for distributing this notification.

Thinking about the non-IC radio (transmitters and receivers) situation. Customs can't examine every component coming into the country for the IC stickers -- too much goods and too few staff looking for frilly, French underwear and other forbidden items... (plus the other big-press-coverage stuff that shouldn't be coming in.) If you have an incident while using non-IC equipment, the insurance company has a legal out for denying your claim. Plus, if the incident gets enough press coverage, you may find IC deciding to make an example of you.
I as thinking of picking up a small stack of HK receivers..... Prices from North-American retailers is coming down on these so the advantages of HK receivers are decreasing.
