Re: Build Thread... A few Yellow Aircraft F18's
I got back into my CF-18 last night.. just finished up the air brake a few minutes ago.

Not art yet...just the canvas. But a pretty sweet canvas!

Re: Build Thread... A few Yellow Aircraft F18's
Trev,
This is what I'm thinking for the build scope: • Build basic kit per the instructions • Set it up as a twin • Create detailed cockpit, w/detailed pilot 1/7 scale • Install opening canopy • Detail canopy frame • Make nose removable • Hide any visible hatch latches • Make wings, stabs, fins removable • Add lights: o Afterburner rings, LH RH o CF-18 identification spotlight o LEX lights, LH RH o Under wing fairing lights, LH RH o Wing tip rail lights, LH RH o Vertical fin outer flashing lights, LH RH o Vertical fin rear nav light, RH only • Add surface detail, including LEX fences • Super detail landing gear • Upgrade tires from the stock foam • Add speed brake and add visible details when open • Line and detail wheel well openings • Open existing grates and grills, etc. Maybe replace with new • Add all underwing pylons • Add underwing 330 gal fuel tanks, not the C/L tank • Add AIM-9M (or 9L) sidewinder missiles on tips Also add scale hinging on the wings. Did I miss some things? I'm sure I have but that's the plan....

Re: Build Thread... A few Yellow Aircraft F18's
Ya! Awesome Sean! I really like the idea of the spot light. That light and a few others aren't part of our Details 4 Scale light package and a definite must.
I also like the idea of detailing the air brake well... those books we have has tons of detail here to show all the hydraulic lines, etc. Sure looks like you covered it all. Very excited to see you get started. Would be honored if you could post here to keep all the Y/A CF18 info together but also understand if you want to do a new thread!! Wooohoooo |

Re: Build Thread... A few Yellow Aircraft F18's
Sean.. here's a picture of the Centerline Tank. Pretty big and we were only going to put one on Peter's. However I got looking at it tonight and I think I will do it on mine also since it does not hang down any lower than the big clamshell main doors
Going to be massive drag with the 330gal wing ranks, C/L tank and sidewinders . Can't wait, LOL |

Re: Build Thread... A few Yellow Aircraft F18's
Thanks Eric, this thread is good motivation!
Trev, is the C/L tank the same as the 330 gal wing tanks? Also are all 4 wing pylons the same?

Re: Build Thread... A few Yellow Aircraft F18's
Yep.. the C/L tank is the same as the wing tanks.
The pylons are the same also.. 2 per wing. I'm going to also look for an AMRAAM for the left outer Pylon and a Sparrow for the right outer pylon. My goal is to try pushing the equivalent of a garage door through the air, LOL |

Re: Build Thread... A few Yellow Aircraft F18's
IMHO military jets always look better with some gear on them. I think my F-16 has AMRAAM's on it.
Are the pylons LH and RH or identical?
