I don't think most pilots will ever wear out a good quality rc engine from proper usage. Like Will said most people don't have an engine long enought to find out. I am assuming most catastrophic engine failures are a result of a bad mix or poor operation. Rc engines don't normally see high rev and extreme heat for extended lengths of time.

I lost a wrist pin bearing after I shaved the deck height and pushed the engine to far. Something was going to happen when you try to squeeze every oz of performance.

Re: The never ending engine thread, East-West

While I'm relatively new to the gas engines (8years) I've only had 1 bad experience with an engine... the Mintor60 from earlier this year. It was complete garbage and I never used it.

I think each motor has some good and bad traits. I like some more vs others, and while each has their own qualities, I've never had one fail or give me greif.

A few of my alltime favorites...
DA50, DA100L, DA150, DA200
DLE55.
3W220, 106, 110, 55.
ZDZ80rvj, ZDZ90, ZDZ180, ZDZ160
Mintor220
Zenoah G20

Recent favorites...
GP61, EME60, EME120, GP123, ZDZ112

Ones I never liked but still ran...
DA85, DA170, DA60, DA120, 3W70, MVVS43

Garbage
Mintor60

Good motors but nothing that made me write home about
BME116
DA100

Sure I missed a few, LOL!!

That'll stir it up

Re: The never ending engine thread, East-West

The only motor that ever "broke" in normal service (ie. not the pointy end of a lawn dart LOL) was my DLE 222. I think the crank separated. Still ran but it was making a god awful noise!!! I'm still waiting to hear from Johnny at Azure...
