Ah! Back to engines. It suffered damage. She had mufflers on, which hit about the same time as the prop hub. The torque sheared off all 8 aluminium bolts holding the cyliders to the crankcase. No parts of the jugs broke out.

Now I have to hunt down a tiny left hand drill bit, check the con rods.... at least I know the inside of it looked like new!

It will take a couple days as Stan has went camping to get video from him. The part that makes me laugh is when we get to the crash site he lets out a big sigh. I was laughing at myself by then.

Re: The never ending engine thread, East-West

The first attempt at flight resulted in a dead stick landing! LOL When I was turning it around (50ft)) to get back to the runway I was sure glad Dale started me on gliders! Keep enough air speed, altitude (tough when you land on a hillside) , don't stall it (BTDT), and keep my perfect record for dead stick lands intact!

After the re-tune I was pretty confident that I could fly this thing... well like Dale always says, "Humor is Tragedy plus time"! I had it set pretty close, two clicks of down elevator, nothin' else, then I started molting!

You maybe able to use a small easy out and heat. Those cylinder bolt should only be aluminum. I would try heating and cooling the case after I drilled the holes for the easy outs. The broken bolts shouldn't be too hard to get out because both material is almost the same. They may have used locktite during assembly but the heating will help loosen that.

Me and my trusty dental pick has 3 of 'em out. Yup, I think they used Locktite but only on the ones closest to the prop.

Edit: All bolt are out. Thank to an old (I mean really old) easy out!

Re: The never ending engine thread, East-West

You know it is an old easy out, When it can't remember the last time it was in.

Well I swung Friday off. Picked up another 35L of fuel for the week-end, at Drayton Valley's fun-fly.

As Jack say's :
Sitt'n on my Stool Burn'n fuel.
