Re: The never ending engine thread, East-West

My first float plane flight required a long swim with a stick and fishing line to tangle in the floats and a long swim back. Not much fun.

That is very much like my attempt at float flying. Except I had an 8yr old mad because his plane was bobbing with the floats up. We spent the afternoon throwing rocks past the plane, trying to make waves to push it closer. More rocks actually hit the plane. After a debate (with an 8yr old) about coming back with a boat for retrieval, I had to strip down to my shorts and swim for it. I probably set a speed swimming record that early May afternoon. To add more insult to my failed attempt at impressing my kid, it took all of 2 seconds before he spilled his guts to his mother when we got home. He was more impressed with underwear swimming than the whole float plane adventure. I still have very strong memories of the muddy bottom on my toes and the cold water passing over my shorts.

Haha. Yeah. The lake I chose was on top of the mountain where I grew up. Ice wasn't gone very long. I'm still waiting for righty to drop. Been 23 years since. Guess I can stop waiting.

Re: The never ending engine thread, East-West

Well just finished a electric plane build now starting my aeroplus 30cc yak. Already dropped the canopy and cracked it. Hadn't even taken out of the plastic. Am taking pictures. Pretty impressed by the plane. Need to finish quick so I can put the box back in the living room.

Re: The never ending engine thread, East-West

I grew up spending my summers swimming in the North Atlantic and the winters trying to jump across floating Ice pans. I can honestly say a lake in Northern Alberta during May month is colder. I am confident my equipment will never recover from my float flying adventure.

With a turf crash everyone is willing to help out with a recovery and smart ass remark. A water crash you just get the smart ass remarks.

Re: The never ending engine thread, East-West

That is so true. On the bright side the plane I swam for is in my basement. Was bought used in 1980. It's a oldie. Will be flying again. Back to assembling the yak
