As tight as you can with a 7/16 wrench, then another 1/4 turn by hand.

Who prefers stud, and nut over bolts to attach exhaust options?

That is my preference.

I think I'll try studs on next setup also.
I have had trouble trying to get the screw on the inside of the header bend tightened properly. Ball drivers are just too steep an angle. had to cut a allen key so short end was half the normal proportion. But then i could never find it again when needed.
uOn a couple mtw headers it was hard to get the screw in the inner hole loose with grinding a little relief.

Do you locktite the stud? Which colour? Or maybe the high temp grade?

Re: The never ending engine thread, East-West

I use silicone, and run my studs to the bottom of the thread, snug. Enough to have nut take preference to loosen first. Although this season I believe I will try the gasket glue we use for exhaust gaskets The stuff from our Honda shop. Others put me onto Yama-Bond for gaskets this is what our Honda guy uses.
Changing projects today, might get close enough to the work bench surface to stud the exhaust of an Evolution, or MVVS 26. Same principle.

Ed, glad to see you back. Week-end pass?

For convenience, I purchase all thread in metric sizes, just for this.

Re: The never ending engine thread, East-West

ya off for a few days trying to do paperwork i get easily distracted !
all thread is ok just not as strong
but im overkill guy plus i get allen stuff in the bolt bins at most of the shops i work in
u can use the longer bolts with shoulders if u wanna get crazy and cut a thread on the other end so if it comes loose the shoulder wont eat the inside of the bored hole plus it provides a precise fit

Re: The never ending engine thread, East-West

I went digging for my 4mm to stud this Evolution 26, with a wrap around. To cold to root in the cargo trailer (-27 currently). My example was to incorporate long spacers to be able to nut the wrap around muffler onto the long studs.
Looks like I will purchase more hardware mid week when I'm in Edmonton.

I understand your true exhaust studs, as on sleds. That would be great for headers.
