Re: 14 mz battery upgrades

I dont know what the batteries in the 14MZ look like, but is it Lipo or Life compatable in terms of input voltage?

I know when others have used 3S lipos in their TX's, the word has been that Futaba has a better power transisitor (Compared to say, spektrum) and could handle the 12.4V from a lipo with no problems.

I have been upgrading my Spektrums to LiFe bateries. At 9.9V, its a little less harsh on the power transitor than the 12.4V LiPo

Re: 14 mz battery upgrades

just be careful if you use a lfe / lipo Some people forget they put in new battery then plug their radio into their charger that comes with it and it catches fire or blows up..

On the spektrum's there is a feature you can go in and tell it you installed a lipo and it will regulate and charge properly.. NOT sure about futaba.

Worst case you take the battery out and throw it on your balance charger and charge it then re-install it back into the radio..

Re: 14 mz battery upgrades

My Futaba 12Z uses the same batt. The Transmitter draws 500ma per hour, the batt. is labelled 2200ma if you crack the case open it says 1800ma on the batt.

If you cycle the batt. your lucky to get 1500ma, and after two years you might as well throw them in the garbage.

love my radio, so I gutted mine out for a 3700ma two cell lipo

The lipo batts will last for years, the ion batts don't.

Un plug it to charge it

Re: 14 mz battery upgrades

There are some lipo packs that are in parallel to give you enough ma's that will fit. You just have to solder in a plug of your choice.
I went with a standard two cell, which required gutting.

Re: 14 mz battery upgrades

You can buy new ones at $89.00 plus tax. To be comfortable buy three of them.
And do that every two years!!!
