Nice vid, IM4711! How does the agility feel compared to your Goblins? 3D with a multi-rotor, even with CP, seems like a contradiction in terms.

Re: Build and maiden flight with Stingray 500 Collective pitch Quad Copter

There might be some more video coverage coming sometime soon. However there are a few other projects I am working on so it might be a few more weeks.

As I explained in another forum the collective pitch quad is seriously cool to fly but cannot be compared to 3d heli flying. To a degree ... its similar but not for most parts. Flips, tools fee somehow similar but even there your stick inputs are a bit different. So I have to relearn parts of it. Also flying banked curves or reducing altitude is different and if you screw up its a bit harder to catch it. (don't ask how I know).

Nevertheless even in case of crashing -> the Stingray quad is build very simple. That actually reduces number of parts you need quite a bit (e.a. 3 booms all identical, blades identical, mechanics for the 4 rotors all identical). I had 2 crashes within one week. What broke ... first crash I broke the landing gear and 2 booms. Second crash I broke one boom ... tarts it. So for those who might get worried about crash cost - does not seem to be too bad.

Cause of crashes -> simply misjudgment on adding collective during a rainbow I tried (rainbows are not easy with it). It slipped to mother earth. Second I may have made a mistake on the one rotor and the rod arm slipped off witch made one rotor uncontrollable.
