Totally reasonable. Couple of the clubs I am in are triple that amount and one if them is more if you don't contribute to the work parties.

Can't for the life of me understand what the complaining is about. It's 2 jugs of fuel or a battery pack. I can't remember the last time I got out of the hobby shop for less than 50 bucks.

It's crazy, but people will drop hundreds and even thousands of dollars on equipment and then get cheap on fittings (using control horns from pervious crashes).

Not surprised to see this thread and its direction.

Think of how much it costs to play golf or hockey on a regular basis and compare it to this hobby. We have it good with dropping a hundred dollars for a club membership.

So, the answer to my original question is affiliate memberships are not unusual, and generally deemed a positive thing. Ok thanks for all the input.
