Quad motor Question

I am assembling a quad and wondering what size of motors I should be considering. Cost is an issue so they have to be affordable, but should I be calculating the thrust (lift) capability on the total weight of the quad or just 1/4 of it? Thanks for any info.

Re: Quad motor Question

You would want the motor to be 1/4 of the quads weight AND THEN SOME EXTRA.

If each motor only produced 1/4 of the trust at full power, you would only be able to hover at max throttle and not ascend.

A quad needs to hover at 1/2 throttle. That should give you some idea as to the power requirements. Maybe each motor @ 1/2 the weight (full) would equal 1/4 the power (per motor) at half throttle?

Some of the guys here know of a website with an online spreadsheet that allows you to punch in the numbers and get the required motors. Maybe they can post a link to that site.
