Winter Flying Cured!
Found a thread today on HF showing these portable plastic bubbles.
So I did some reading on them and found out they can be heated for colder weather and in the summer they can be cooled. That sent the green light off in my mind! LOL so I fired the company an email asking them how strong these structures are and what the cost is! Explained what It would be used for an gave them a crash course in RC helicopters sizes, head speeds and construction materials. My biggest question was how strong is the material that they make them out of. Imagine a structure that can be used for winter flying with heat and summer flying with A/C an bug free! It would be amazing so the next question that needs to be answered is can they withstand a strike from an RC helicopter with out being destroyed? If that is a yes now we have an all season dome to fly safely from! A definite WIN/WIN if you ask me! Hopefully they reply! I'll post there response when I get it! LOL http://www.casabubble.com/ cheers Keith

Re: Winter Flying Cured!
That's a cool idea, luxury winter flying. I wonder if it would impact visibility negatively. Glare and water droplets from the melted snow come to mind.
All I really need for winter flying is to keep my hands warm. The rest of my body I can easily keep warm with clothing. I built a LIPO powered heated styrofoam transmitter box and it works very well at keeping my hands toasty hot. https://rccanada.ca/rccforum/showthread.php?p=891509 |

Re: Winter Flying Cured!
Actually, Keith, I was thinking along the same lines, but built out of stryo-board.
Last year on these forums was a great thread on transmitter gloves and heated boxes. One of the replies was from a guy that built a TX box out of stryro board that included a heating element and a computer fan for circulating the heat. I love FPV flying in my car in the winter, but this cant be done at the club flying field for obvious reasons. When standing outdoors, the wind is the biggest chill factor in winter. I was thinking just make this baby bigger, big enough to stand in. It could be velcro'd together for simple assembly and dis-assembly at the field. A plexiglass window to look through, and a hinged back door for you to get into it. Would be dirt cheap to build too. Might be a more cost-effective option if that dome turns out to be prohibitively expensive.

Re: Winter Flying Cured!
Ya. And hotbox this:
Heres the thread on the hotbox. a few posts down includes a wiring schematic https://www.rccanada.ca/rccforum/showthread.php?t=117834 My idea was to build a bigger one like this. One you can stand in, yet be portable.

Re: Winter Flying Cured!
Hey, that's my thread lol...
A friend of mine emailed a company in china and got a price of about $700 for a cheap inflatable with the blower. I'd like to see one in person and make sure it's nice and clear. Damn winter is long in this country. |
