I believe that's the point. If you don't want to ship it, why not take it to the local club and sell it?

Re: For sale/can't ship/too big to ship. B.S.

I am a buyer that will pay for shipping if they plane/setup grabs me. My best experience was a 30 size electric biplane. It was in BC, i was in Ontario. Buyer got a greyhound quote. I think i paid about $70 for the shipping and maybe $50 for the packing job on top that the asking price for the plane. This was no more than i would have paid for shipping of the same new ARF, and some components and gas for a couple trips to the LHS to build it new.
When the plane came, i was amazed at the quality of crate, the restraints for plane and components. Anyways i would buy and ship again for the right plane and price.
There are planes on RCC now, that i would probably offer to buy, if the buyer would crate and ship.
I understand not everybody, has the time, the skills, or whatever. It is the buyers choice. No going to argue with that.
But i also have seen the same people get angry because they cant get 50% of what they paid for a mint plane! I have no sympathy for them if they don't offer to ship or travel for a sale.

Anyways, Nick Milligan should take a bow for example of a great crating job. Thx Nick!

Yes i know what Nick does. He probably is way ahead of most of us, in terms of tools and skills.
Don't got me wrong, i know there are people who cant do this, or cant be bothered.

There are other options.

I run a small company. We ship very delicate systems and expensive all around the world.
We have the crates made custom by a packing crating company. Thats all they do. Our crates are usually about 2m x 2m x 1.5m. They carry loads in the 400-600kg range. We drop off the components in cardboard boxes, they design, build and packing, label the crate for $500. This international certified wood (treated, no bugs, etc), moisture protection, and air freight ready. Takes them 1-2 days usually.

If i asked them to make a crate the size of Nicks, i bet i would only pay $75.

There are options for those who aren't DIY types. Maybe people just don't know this!

Re: For sale/can't ship/too big to ship. B.S.

Atta boy Jon!!

There are some of us in remote parts of this great country where shipping is a way of life. Anything and everything is shipped. Has to be!

I very much share in the frustration others have expressed about "will not ship" adds! Ok, sometimes it's legit but most often I wager it's a case of just not wanting to put any effort into it.

A while back I was watching an add on RCC for a plane with more than a little interest. It was large and fragile so it didn't surprise me that the seller didn't want to ship it. Patience in the end was rewarded by him changing his mind and it was shipped from Ontario to here and arrived in fine shape. The shipping crate was just a couple of large cardboard boxes cut and re-taped to suit the occasion!

You made me blush John,
I actually have a really good time wrapping any item for sale, gift or otherwise.
There is something very gratifying in taking care. To hear back is a bonus like no other.
Thank you,

And what would you say if the plane came poorly packed and damaged?

Nicely done on the packaging of that Norseman!

Anything can be shipped. Its just how much is it going to cost compared to the value of the item being bought.

My take-away lesson is: When I post something for sale, I will instead say " Will not ship; its not worth my hassle to package it for safe transport"

Re: For sale/can't ship/too big to ship. B.S.

Fact of the matter is that most of the people here have no clue about selling. They also fail to realize that it's ultimately up to the buyer. He has the cash. If you turn him down. you just bought your own stuff. Don't get much cash or move many items that way.

Everything is a negotiation and if you constantly negotiate for full asking price, you'd better be very good at it or else you'll be stuck with a lot of stuff.

If you won't offer any accommodation to buyers, why even put the stuff up for sale?

As for shipping, there always is a way. What these guys mean is won't ship. It never got to them in the first place by someone who could not ship it, so what stops it from making another trip?

Can't is simply a lazy man's word.

Look i have been burned too. Like any transaction, you are rolling the dice to some extent buying anything that is prepaid or shipped.

The one time i was burned with a bad packing job, i was also totally mislead by the buy as to the condition of the plane before packing!!!

Now, I only ship with insurance. Pictures before and Pictures as packed are a must.

But brand new ARFs come damaged too!!! I know lots of instances of that.
