It's bindable to any radio that has or uses a spectrum or orange transmitter (TX) module.
Be advised that spectrum doesn't use the standard channel assignment of most radios, the 9x or 9xr included. The spectrum module is okay.

BUT, If you get the orange tx module compatible with spectrum receivers, you'll also have to get special programming cables for the tx module so that you can reprogram the channel inputs/outputs to match those used by the spectrum receivers. The spektrum compatible orange tx modules are sent out from the factory with standard channel assignments, not spektrum channel assignments. [Somebody screwed up big time on that one, LOL.]
Standard channels, #1. Aileron, #2. Elevator, #3. Throttle, #4. Rudder, etc.
Spektrum Channel, #1. Rudder, #2. Elevator, #3. Aileron, #4. Throttle, etc.

Re: What is a tx module? New to 2.4ghz

You can also get to 2.4 Gig without the complexity, keep an eye out on the classifieds here on RC Canada.

You can buy this 8UAP radio that's fully equipped with servo's and stuff

Add this to it:

And you'll have a 2.4Gig system with Futaba Computer radio, along with 3 Receivers, this whole system will also work with most Bind and Fly DSM airplanes too. Oh, no worries about proper channel mapping either.
Not just any old Joe.. LOL
