Re: Aeroworks 50cc edge 540

Just thought I would do an update on the progress of the Edge. The plane is coming along very well and I'm really happy with the progress I've made thus far. everything goes together really nicely and the little mods I've been doing will just make it that much nicer.

I got the cowl nicely cut out to fit the DA, I still have to determine how much I need to cut out of the bottom to allow adequate airflow. I also got the Canister Installed. Its a KS rear exit and should work pretty good. It fit perfectly

I did a small mod to the wheel pants to ensure they will remain crack free and firmly mounted on the plane. I did this simply by using some ply to build up the surface and level it to the axle. Then I drilled a small cut out so the axle can fit in and not hit the ply I built up. Then I got everything lined up and drilled the holes for the wheel pant mounts from SIG. Doing this allows me to have the wheel pant bolted to the axle from both sides. ensuring long life to the wheel pant when being flown exclusively from a grass field.

I opted to try a FIJI water bottle for a fuel tank. Its a 500ml (16.9oz) so that will be tons of fuel for the typical 10 minute flights I do. and its extremely light weighing only 2.4oz fully made including the klunk.

I got the fuel dot installed. I decided to go a little bling here, and get the miracle black anodized dot. I also made a light ply backing plate to go in behind it so I wont have any troubles with it cracking the balsa around it.

For batteries I picked up some LiFe brand batteries. The RX battery is a bit large, but its not too heavy. Its a 6.6v 3200mAh. For Ignition I got the same but just a 2100mAh.

Now Im just waiting on my carbon fibre spinner so I can install it then finally find out where the batteries are going to go. But preliminary CG checks show I will be able to mount them just ahead of the wing tube. Beside the fuel tank.

anyways heres some pics! let me know what you think.
