Re: Vinyl Graphics Cutters

So far I haven't had a chance to use the tutorial that comes with it, but the program is pretty easy to use. I like the ability to change the speed and weight of the cut from the program. This makes it really easy to fine tune for cutting different materials.

Wow! That's great. What type of vinyl did you use? Cutter speed and depth settings? I purchased some premium sign vinyl from Sign Supply Canada, MACtac Pro 8300 vinyl out door, but haven't tried it yet.

Re: Vinyl Graphics Cutters

Avery 9 year (9000 series) 2 mil. Blade is set to 1 and weight set 5, speed left at default of 8. A little slower speed might make it even better. Just use the vinyl on the paper backer it came with and run it through. Leaves just a faint mark on the paper and cuts the vinyl perfectly. Transfer with pre-mask as normal.

Re: Vinyl Graphics Cutters

Thanks Bob. A point of clarification, you do place the vinyl on the cutting mat carrier, correct?

No, when cutting vinyl, I do not use the carrier mat. It comes on a paper backer and I just use it that way.

Hello Scott:

$240? I haven't see the price that low. I was in Michael's, in Ottawa, on Tuesday and it was on sale for $269.00 (regular price $300.00). Sign Supply Canada, where I purchased my Silhouette, still sells them for $269.99; they may even have a 5% discount sale on right now. They are located In Mississauga, so you could drop in to make the purchase and save on shipping; that wasn't an option for me, I had to have it shipped.

Cheers,

Peter

Re: Vinyl Graphics Cutters

Thank you fro the info, Bob. I'll have to try that. I have not yet tried to make a cut without the plastic "sticky" carrier. Maybe that's one of my problems when attempting to cut smaller letters?

Cheers,

Peter

Re: Vinyl Graphics Cutters

Quite possible. The carrier sheet adds a lot of thickness that will screw up the pressure settings. Also with the carrier sheet and it's sticky, it is soft and will allow the knife to push in rather than cut.

One thing that is imperative in cutting small lettering is a very sharp blade.

I used to run a graphics shop in Calgary for 7 years and have cut thousands of files, lettering and designs. This gives me a little more knowledge on setup than the average newbie user. While this is no professional machine, it is certainly good enough for the average hobby user.
