Negative. I have only the standart software.

Debating if I should upgrade?

I am not in front of my computer but I will check it tonight and repost.
It is hard to find but I do remember that you have to expand a box.

Another tip is I found a font that you can download and insert in windows that will allow you to make some nice roundel

http://www.dafont.com/fr/roundels.font

Upper case C is the canadian one

Same problem here. I'm still on the original Cameo software. I can find a "double cut" setting, but no "overcut" command.

Re: Vinyl Graphics Cutters

There ya have it..

I don't have that in the original software, the screen looks quite different, and it doesn't have that option.

will debate the upgrade, but I like the idea of 'if it isn't broke don't fix it', especially if there were documented errors prior...

Thanks for digging into this guys!

I appreciate the help!

I don't know how many times i have to say this THE NEW SOFTWARE WORKS FINE. If you don't like it you can go back to the old software.

Re: Vinyl Graphics Cutters

Well, time to update my post from yesterday.

First, thanks for the info on the overcut setting. I didn’t know it existed either. I tried it with a 24 point font and realized that my blade was probably getting dull, because the vinyl would pull up as the blade went up and down at the end of the overcuts. After changing the blade, I tried a few cuts with and without the overcut. I was hard for me to tell if the weeding was easier with the overcut setting, because the main improvement was from having a new blade. The weeding was certainly easy.

My problem is that even with a new blade and the letters separating easily from the waste, I still struggle with some letters moving out of position. This happens no matter what I do to hold the letters down (usually with the tip or the side of an exacto blade), but this can be a question of skill and practice. Until I get better at it, this is probably the main reason I would use the technique I described in my previous post: the letters do not have a chance to move out of position.

However, I need to update my post of yesterday if anyone wants to try that technique: I tried some more cuts today and didn’t have as much luck with the letters staying trapped in the waste when peeling the vinyl off the backing. This could be a function of the font used, cutting over a mat vs cutting directly on the cutter bed, but most probably because my old blade was dull. With a new blade, even without the overcut, many of the letters fell out of the waste when peeling the vinyl off the backing. However, this was easily solved by putting a strip of transfer tape over the vinyl strip before peeling the backing. The transfer tape is peeled off before rubbing down the letters.

Again, this is an alternative to the usual technique that works for me because I find it hard to keep small letters from coming off the backing and moving out of position, but any feedback on how to tame these small letters is welcome!

Re: Vinyl Graphics Cutters

Hi Pierre,

I am new to use the Cameo but starting to get the hang of it.

Thank again to provide me with the Stetson Aerobatic logo.

My best result for making a cockpit name was using Ultracoat trim strips.
I used the sticky mat and position a piece of Ultracoat trim strip with the backing.
The adhesive is very strong and the plastic film is very thin.
You have to use a very thin blade setting so you must not got thru the backing, overcut setting and very slow down speed.
I was amazed how the weeding was easy.
Using the Ultracoat trim strip permit me a perfect colour match with the plane covering.

I did several roundel and maple leaf using Monocoat. I use the sticky mat but use the non sticky side. Spraying Windex on the mat and applying Monokote, scrape the excess and cut before it completely dried.

The font that I posted earlier for roundel, will give you a very good resolution because the software see it as text. You can perform all the function that you would be able to do with text.

I am using the version 3 basic edition of the software that you can download for free.

Re: Vinyl Graphics Cutters

I have been in the past doing a little playing with my vinyl cutter.. with mixed success.. Finally got serious with it this weekend... Burned up a lot of ultracote tring to get it right..

So since my dear old Hobbico 60 has gone down every year.. And no !! I am not really a bad pilot.. the first time was an old piece of junk in the long grass when I had to do a landing in the long.. the next was a tree grabbed it in the spring.. and last was a glare off the rim of my glasses , when I got my eyes on it.. I thought it was right side up and pulled up on the elevator.. It went down.. Now every year it gets rebuilt with upgrades and modifications... This year beening no different.. she has had some upgrading... and next is the covering, she needs a new look.

This is an old wing from an LT40 that I use as a test bed for covering...

Everything was cut out from ultracote with no windex... soap and water , glue etc... none of those tricks worked for me for some reason..

Using an AIP 54 inch cutter..
