Above two posts are on the button, Poly/vinylester resins are far easier to work with in getting a fiber to resin balance. If possible use vinylester as it has a lesser shrink factor and will not pull away from tight/sharp contours. If you use cloth ALWAYS lay it into mat or it will as Larry says "print through" your finished surface. Gel coat first gives a finished surface with no glass fiber exposed. Less resin = less brittle, unlike full size automobiles or boats we want our parts to have a bit of flexibility. At speed I do not want My full size performance boat to shape change.

Be careful of CT stock. I got a can of resin that was REAL thick with crystals around the inside of the can lid. May have been caused by 'old stock' or maybe stored under extreme temps? No problem having it exchanged but a real hassle & annoyance returning to the store when I was in the middle of a project.

Re: Fiberglass supplies

west sytems resins etc avaiable from Lee Valley, not cheap, but if you have a local store, easy to get, I have used the 105 to glass floats, thin it down with 100% iso, just a little and it works great. Gerry
