Stratford has a local flying club with some very experienced guys flying gas engines. They have a real nice fun fly every year too. Not too far away from me here in Tillsonburg.

Re: What should I do to fly my RC plane legally?

And those of us MAAC members who are invited to fly at the local Victoria airfield for there charity airshow that generates 20-30k every year for your local Communities might not be able to do that without MAAC and there members assistance to retain that club and be the only Zoned model aerodrome in Canada. Yes the have limited membership but being a responsible modeler and maac member and being on the waiting list helps get you in. And in know way am I saying anyone isn't but paying the small amount of money for membership has it's privelages. Maac is not prefect but what is these days, we have a devoted team of individuals on committees and as directors to help better our hobby, and yes some see that as detrimental. Well your entitled to your opinion but when you or friend may have been on the other end of the charities think about those MAAC members and club members then.

Ok I'm off the soap box.

To the OP please investigate your area to enjoy this hobby as we do , you may find our rules different from what you are used too , but your on the right track by asking what to do. Welcome to Canada and enjoy it as we do. You will find being a maac member and surrounding yourself with people in a club who enjoy it as much as you do very welcoming.

Re: What should I do to fly my RC plane legally?

A little known fact is that there is at least one more ZONED AEROROME in Canada and it is also in British Columbia.
In June 1997 the Columbia Shuswap Regional District Area C South Shuswap Adopted Zoning Bylaw 701 that included within it's AR2 Agriculture Zone (4ha) a special use Zone to property within Shuswap Lake Estates occupied by the Shuswap Lake Aero Modelers (S.L.A.M.) club, known to all in the west as the host club of the most awesome and long running Fall Classic Float Fly at Sandy Point on the Shuswap Lake.
I have attached a JPG screen capture of page 34 of the online CSRD Area C Zoning Bylaw document that can be seen at https://csrd.civicweb.net/Documents/...y.aspx?ID=9031

These two known documented Zoned flying sites on Agricultural Land in British Columbia were acquired due to the existence and support from MAAC without who's participation and support would not have been possible.

can't get in myself. I fly well and I have had MAAC off and on since 1980 (still active). But my main focus is FPV, which they do not allow. Also like gliders - no soaring there. Some clubs restrict or ban helis. No it does not bother me - it's a private club and it suits their membership I guess.

I myself have never run into hostility at any MAAC location, but many folks on RCCanada have indeed run into some nastiness at certain MAAC clubs when they tried to get into flying. Something to keep in mind. but I encourage the OP to try other MAAC clubs if he does run into such nastiness. Many, I imagine most, of the MAAC clubs are friendly.

Re: What should I do to fly my RC plane legally?

Met the instructor and a couple of guys getting their wings from the Stratford club last summer and was impressed. If my job keeps me in this area I will be reaching out to them come spring.
