Eflite Bae Hawk Rudder

I got an eflite bae hawk at an rc swap meet a little over a year ago. I have not yet flown it since it had some work to be done to it. With it's current set up it will do over 100 mph (or so I was told). If you have one or have seen one, than you know that there is no working rudder; just molded fiberglass. I was just wondering how you would go about cutting out a rudder with the proper dimensions. Also, it's hallow and I don't know how I would hinge it.

Re: Eflite Bae Hawk Rudder

I would just saw out the scale rudder. Fill the stab opening with a balsa spar. Do the same on the rudder and sand in the needed bevel. Touch up with paint and add robart pin hinges.
The tricky part may be finding space to locate the servo. Rudder too thin to mount any servo, so you may need to run a linkage into the fuselage. Could be done with a pull pull wires or one single stiff linkage rod.

The eflite hawk is fast (for its small size) and has high wing loading making it tricky to land. Pretty unforgiving little plane. Pavement for wheels is a must.
Zen thinking * It's rebuildable till it fits back in the box. **
