Now that Christmas is done and over with, and flying season is approaching, I thought I'd try this one again at a blow out price. This price is my bottom line though, I won't go less or I'll just keep it. So, with that said:
Up for grabs is a 1/4 scale Waco Taperwing. Nigel Tarvin built this airplane probably 8 or so years ago. I bought it when it was built and covered but not finished. One thing led to another and I decided I needed another turbine so I sold it...... regretfully...... it was purchased by a gentleman in Calgary who's father in law finished it. I had always asked him to offer it back to me first if he ever were to sell it. Unfortunately his father in law did pass and I got the airplane back from him. At this point though reality has set in for me that it is simply to large for me to want to haul around, and while it is a beautiful airplane, it really isn't something I want to put the effort into hauling and flying. My truck is a short box (even though it's a one ton) and my trailer is a 26' trailer which is not something I can even get into the local field never mind the fact that I don't want to pull a 26' trailer for one airplane.
The airplane is equipped with Hitec servo's and a ZDZ80.
The airplane is very large. It has roughly a 94" top wing and the fuselage is I believe 76" long. For those of you wondering about the kit, builder, etc, this airplane was scratch built by Nigel Tarvin. For those of you who don't know Nigel, he is an incredible builder from Chilliwack BC. IMO you would be hard pressed to find a better builder in Canada, that's not to say there aren't a lot of great builders in Canada, it's just that Nigel is that good. The airplane is light, straight, and looks like a Perfect Waco Taperwing.
The paint finish on it is not fantastic. It has what I would call a 10 foot finish, it looks great from 10 feet away. The paint was not done by Nigel or by myself but rather from the gentleman that finished it and flew it. It is nice, most people think it's better than I make it out to be, but I'm a painter by trade.
There are other little things that while they probably mean nothing to most people, they dig at me a little bit such as how the switch for the ignition was mounted to the outside of the airplane. It's nothing major, it's just stuff that I wouldn't have done that way myself. Why am I telling you this, because I just went on about how fantastic of a builder Nigel is an how amazing the airframe is, so I want full disclosure on the fact that the paint is not perfect, and there are some oddities like the switch being done that way.
Bottom line, this airplane is turn key, yes, it doesn't have high end digital servo's, but it has servo's up to the task of flying this style airplane (I did not choose the servo's). If you fly Hitec, I will include the hitec Optima 8 channel 2.4 receiver. You will not find a biplane of this size and quality for this price anywhere. Expect to take roughly 30 minutes at the field to assemble the airplane with flying wires, if you have a trailer big enough, assemble it once and transport it together.
Anyway, I had listed this for $1600 last time, I want the space back in my shop so I will take $1200 for this airplane complete. This is a giveaway price for this airplane. I will crate and ship if you want. I will build the crate for the price of materials, about $80 for plywood and foam, and I will find you the best shipping rate I can, but based on experience, I would expect between $600 and $800 within Canada using Global Pack and Ship which is the best shipping costs I've found for freight packages. It's far to big to go greyhound, UPS, or Fedex, if you know of a better shipper please let me know.
