Hi all, I have been thinking about it for a long time and I think I would like to go ahead and open a brick and mortar hobbyshop in the GTA west. looking for a 50% partnership with someone who is enthusiastic has at least $25K in funds and is passionate about the hobby.

I would like to go a different route from the traditional LHS in Canada, and mostly stock chinese product. If interested please PM so we can meed and discuss.

PS. for people who are not interested and would just like to give negative and discouraging comments, please refrain as I am not interested in hearing it. Thanks.

I thought for a while about this, however now with my company just getting through the 5 year barrier, I know what a long up hill climb start ups are, so good luck to you!! I would join in but I would be a few years out.

You idea of tier 2 product is not a bad one. I've been told by friends at LHS's and a buyer at horizon, that the majority of sales comes from the lower end (cheaper) BNF and RTF type product such as Hobbyzone and other park flyers etc. I think that more people are willing to jump into a hobby at those price ranges.

Put some thought into stocking items from suppliers like Extreme Flight, Carden, 3DHS (as PRO RC does), Jtec, Aeroworks and others the like. If there was a "high end" hobby shop stocked with the right size prop for my 170-200cc, and related accessories and kits, I'd be there everyday. Same with high end Heli stuff I'm sure.

Not sure if I'm alone on this but the duties and shipping costs, plus the hassle of waiting and missed shipments has really put a damper on my impulse purchasing from suppliers like I mentioned.

I know the risk is higher stocking that product but a bit of negotiation (obviously the buying power is lower then in some states) and I think they would work with you.

I'l keep my fingers crossed.

Good luck!

I understand the market you are trying to serve and you are not the only one that sees the prospects. Every LHS I have entered lately is expanding into those products. The days of alignment to single distributors like Horizon Hobby are waning. Have a look at the additions made at Great Hobbies. They are having to broaden their horizons (oops pardon the pun).
I'm sure many who read your post will think first of a HobbyKing line up but they are just an aggregator of available product. They are stocking to their perceived client base as you will need to. I wish you the greatest of luck and perseverance. It will take time but I'm certain the GTA population base could support it.

I think there's more opportunity for great success in the import and distribution of tier-2 products than in retail.
