After reading a bunch on all the new planes and new builds people are talking about and looking forward to I was wondering about all the older gliders everyone has. I'm sure they still get used and I think it would be interesting to hear what your favorite sailplane, DLG, electric glider, thermal glider etc is, or which ones you will regularly get out and fly because they are so enjoyable?

Re: Favorite or Most Flown Glider

I loved flying my Parkzone KA8 at the end of last summer. And my other favorite is the alula. The dreamflight libelle should be a great one to.

I guess it depends where you fly. I am flatland flier and my most used is my Radian since I can fly it anywhere and the foam is easily fixable from bush landings... But, my all time favorite is my highly modified and electrified 2.5m Airtronics Aquila oldie, the one in my avatar, it can give moldies run for their money and so enjoyable to fly!

Re: Favorite or Most Flown Glider

I'm scratch building from a picture a "scepter". Should be fun... 100" gull wing glider with twin boom.... Using a matched pair of nitro .15's. 1 on the end of each boom pod..... I will post pictures later tonight.... Also scratching out a spectra glider with landing gear sectioned to fit from an Eflite .25 cub, and floats from a Clancy lazy bee.. Scratch built as well.... Oh.... A Enya .09 for power on the nose...

Re: Favorite or Most Flown Glider

I'm fortunate enough to be able to fly where I live because of electrics & my most flown is a Spectra I bought used 3 seasons ago. I upgraded the motor & glued both halves of the wing together & fly it any time the weather is decent. Most favorite is however my scratch built Grand Esprit which is a real floater.

E-Flite Mystique. Excellent quality and flies great to. I think this is great bang for your buck glider.

Re: Favorite or Most Flown Glider

Two gliders built before 1980 and still intact are:

Rod and Mark Miller's Windfree: 99" span, 555sq.in, flying stab, rudder and elevator, definitely a classic that people still build
a little known free flight type glider from the same era (Flying Models, June, '72), Britisher Geoff Daillmer's 10 foot "Thermal Hopper", 9.5% undercambered airfoil, 1053 sq. in. wing, rudder, elevator, spoiler, towhook release; need to rebuild the tailfeathers that have suffered from hanger rash; used monofilament thread hinges in a figure eight configuration on tailfeathers, light and simple hinging solution.

One classic glider on to build list is Bird of Time, 118" span, modified with flaps, ailerons and leaving only a bit dihedral in main wing panels; I was able to pick up the Dynaflite BOT kit at the Aurora swap meet a few weeks ago; it was well cared for and came with both RCM and Dynaflite plans, several versions of building instructions and surprisingly light wing sheeting. Lots of build/modification threads on this model the U.S. rcgroups forums. Its distinctive wing shape gets reproduced in some of the European ARF e-gliders costing $550/600 U.S. sold by I-Care and Esprit.

Re: Favorite or Most Flown Glider

Last year the one that got the most time was a surprise...a Bonito warmliner. It's certainly not the best thermaler, but it was very fast and forced me to really work the lift. At 2.0 meters though, it does have the wing area to respond to thermals, if I used a light battery pack.

Very aerobatic too and good in almost any wind. There's nothing like getting half hour on a warmliner with one motor run.
