I'm looking for a slow rolling platform to stick some expensive equipment on and call it a rover. I originally thought the best option was a Baja 5b flux but I recently discovered that crawlers with large brushed motors offer higher torque and smoother low speed control. I have absolutely no experience with terrestrial RC vehicles (plenty with air though) and was wondering if anyone could offer me some resources to educate myself or maybe recommend components?
some requirements for the platform:
- a differential on drive wheels would be nice as we plan on adding wheel encoders (so no skidding)
- budget is about $1500
- the rover needs to carry up to 40 lbs on loose gravel with at most a 10 degree incline
- brakes of some sort, either motor or disk
- operating speed will be around 10 cm/s
Any help would be greatly appreciated however the part I'm struggling most with is finding where to buy these components. I've seen a lot of topics on other forums discussing similar projects but no part information.
As a bonus, I'm looking for some way of controlling this using both transmitter and computer. So I need some sort of board which can intercept commands from the Rx and either pass those through or send its own commands. Something like ardupilot but able to get the commands from a PC, not just use its own logic.
Thanks a whole bunch!
