Planes with Retracts

I am interested in acquiring my next electric airplane and would like to get one with retracting landing gear.

In a lot of threads on a number of web sites there are postings indicating that many of the retracts can not handle grass fields and that many retract's will fold up after moderate use. Many of these postings go back three or four years.

Which brand of retracts that are available now are considered to be signiicantly stronger and more likely to last longer than many of there counterparts from a few years ago.

As an example, as FMS upgraded their retracts over the last several years, who else has as well?

Re: Planes with Retracts

Retracts are not the problem on grass strips, it is the size of the wheels. The larger the wheel the better they roll. As far as folding goes I have never had that problem, but if you hit the ground hard enough you will break the gear even if it is fixed. What ever you buy just remember you get what you pay for. Use to live in Thornhill love the golf course there.

Good luck

I photograph many of the local events & have for a few years & to date the only failures I've seen were to larger aircraft (most were using wet fuel or EDF's coming in very fast) and the result of what I'd call a hard landing. I've watched several Habu's & Parkzone P 47's with retracts land without a single failure.

Re: Planes with Retracts

I have the FMS 1450mm red tail, I haven't flown it as of yet but did research as I will be flying from grass and that's one of the reasons I decided to buy FMS's latest version, the V-8. I have read a lot of good things as I didn't wish to buy extra stuff and its a great looking plane and it has a few scale features like gear doors close after gear cycled like the real one and don't hang up in the grass and they are shock absorbing struts to boot. If I could fit in my plane I would

Re: Planes with Retracts

I have the Sea Venom from HK with the servoless retracts. Bought in the middle of last year and not a moments trouble with them. I run off a grass field here.
Tried for my kamikazi pilots licence. Flunked the test.
