if your gyro is reversed on most heli's it will spin left.
just an fyi
try another gyro if your sure nothing is binding

the set up is also suspect did you get the gyro end points programmed, I had a hard time getting mine set

Re: Trex 500 tail issues - any ideas?

Well, UPDATE, I believe I found the issue. This is on older Trex kit, belt driven with a plastic tail unit and pitch control. at low speeds the tail seems fine and responsive , once it gets up to full RMP, just before lift off I lose the tail. I clamped the hell down an spooled he up this afternoon. once up to speed I tried applying full left and right rudder and noticed the issue. The plastic tail pitch control arm is just flexing and twisting, not moving the tail blades. Almost flexing so far, the ball link almost comes out, slow down the head and this goes away.
So my next step, order a new tail unit for the heli. I'm not sure I can find a belt unit, may have to convert it to torque tube. Any way, thats where I'm at with this one. will update once I get some parts.

Thanks again for all your help!'

Hey Scott that should not flex where is it binding? Also the blades are not supposed to be 90 as you have to put off set into the blades to counter act torque. I think see where you went wrong.

I would also check to make sure the belt is twisted the correct way to make sure the tail blades are turning in the correct direction. I have seen this a few times.

Re: Trex 500 tail issues - any ideas?

Scott ; three things id check.
First as the guys mentioned... make doubly sure the tail is spinning the right direction .

Id also suspect if you are getting binding on the push rod that the bearings in the grips are bad.
if you have an old kit take the grips apart and make sure the bearings are dead smooth...

Those 780 gyros like to be trimmed to hover in "rate mode" then go to heading hold it will be happier.

There should be no flex in your pushrod if the end points are set proper and everything is moving freely.

Sounds like the blade grips are locking up at high rpm.....

keep us posted.
Try a new manuever? Nope Stepped on it!
