DG 505 slope soars Collingwood

My friend was over Wednesday night and mentioned it was going to be very cool overnight. I was going to New Market the next day and thought cool = North winds= Slope soaring at Collingwood. With a panic loading job in the morning I was off. I was hoping to be done my appointment around 2pm but it dragged past 4 pm. Hit some construction traffic heading towards Barrie, bummer. It had been raining on/off. Not feeling optimistic. But I was anxious to try a new trail to the top I noticed on Google Earth.

I arrived at the trail well after 6pm, fearing the chance the winds will shift or fade. Recent rain made the farm lane greasy with mud like I've never seen before. Got to the slope and had a great 30+minute flight. First time trying a scale sailplane there, other than small PSS.
The DG 505 is 3.6 m and only has ailerons so its a dog with poor energy but ideal for testing the scale concept.

Pick up a 10 pm coffee to stay awake and get home just before midnight. Another item ticked off on the 2014 bucket list, what a fantastic experience!

Thanks Bob, I was glad it turned out half decent for such a rushed event. Had the old GoPro on the headmount. A good cameraperson is always a big bonus, maybe next time. If it dries out I could drive within a few hundred meters of the slope. I'd love to try my 4m Rodel Fox there, that would be sloping heaven!

Re: DG 505 slope soars Collingwood

Many potential options to that question. The trail is about 2 km in, so its a 30 minute walk with gear. From the bottom the climb is much shorter in distance but you better be fit to climb over 600 feet vertical! The trailhead is about an hour from Barrie or 3 hours from London. I have a 4 hour total drive from North Bay. In good lift the sailplane is way "up there" in less than a minute. When I was there I would give the lift a 6.5/ 10.

Nice slope! Thanks for sharing. Cool transportation, is it a one off or did you buy it that way?

The Xtra-Cycle is a kit you can add to a bike. There have since been many cargo bikes that came to market but the Surly Big Dummy is one of the originals http://surlybikes.com/bikes/big_dummy
