I built this variometer and the first prototype works flawlessly : http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1749208
As a transmitter receiver on the prototype I used a car keychain remote/receiver(on 433 Mhz) module $1 on eBay, so my range is about 50 yards.
Next step would be to hook it up to a better audio transmitter/receiver.
I like this setup because it is not dependent on my RC radio system.
- $1 ebay => 433MHz RF Transmitter and Receiver Kit
- $5 ebay => Arduino nano board
- $10 ebay => MS5611 High-resolution Atmospheric Pressure Module Height Sensor
- some wires, battery, earbuds
After building the prototype, I started to modify it so it will read the voltage of one cell and beep once if above 4.0V, beep twice if above 3.8V, beep 3 times if above 3.6V...and so on...and it works pretty well Next step is to hook up all cells, detect the lowest cell and transmit the voltage of the lowest cell.
