Here are the 1/8" plywood top plates. This is where the gear from the fuse attaches. I really like how they span multiple formers - super strong and should take quite a beating considering the structure underneath.

Re: Beaver Fever in Southern Ontario

Before I glue down the top plates, I installed some 11/32" brass sleeves into the cross bracing. The pictures show it tacked in place to get everything squared up, but these have since been Hysol'd in place.

I went to Hobby Hobby today and found some CF tubing that slides perfectly into these sleeves and will link both floats together.

I will then wrap these CF tubes with Aluminum Streamline tubing which slides overtop the CF tubing really nicely.

Re: Beaver Fever in Southern Ontario

When I was at the Burlington Airport a couple months ago getting some JetA, and noticed an amphibious beaver parked near a hangar, so I went over and shot about 300 pictures of nearly every detail, LOL!!

Here are a few pictures of the landing gear and the struts between the floats. The aluminum streamline tubing with CF inside should make this look really close to scale

Re: Beaver Fever in Southern Ontario

Last pictures of the night.... the brass sleeves have been glued in and top plates are clamped down with Hysol.

Tomorrow I can sheet the rest of the top surface with balsa and then go at sheeting the sides.

Coming along.... but man - a ton of work

Re: Beaver Fever in Southern Ontario

This morning I got the clamps off the top 1/8" plywood top plates and got the Nyrod sleeves installed .

**The yellow sleeve/cable will connect the rear wheel to the rudder. So when the rear wheel is raised the rudder will be in the water. When the rear wheel is lowered (ie: on pavement) the rudder will be raised.

**The red sleeve (offset on the transom) will connect the Hitec 5646WP servo to the rudder for steering.

Re: Beaver Fever in Southern Ontario

There ... Now it's starting to look like a float

Tonight I'll give the top surface of the float a good sanding and will blend the edges into the contour of the formers. And I can then start sheeting the sides

I'll need to think of a good seal for the top hatches.

Re: Beaver Fever in Southern Ontario

just a comment rudders are up for takeoff and landing on water down for taxi may need to add another servo just for that control as it will be too hard to control on takeoff and landing water drag and direction control

Re: Beaver Fever in Southern Ontario

Hey Trev,

While you're at it, you need to make some scale details for the floats.

It's common to see a canoe strapped to the side of the floats of Beavers.

You should get a block of balsa and just "whittle" one up in your spare time. It would be fun and all your internet friends would say it looks cool....
