17mm truggy wheels - size important?

I have an e-revo BL and it has been suggested everywhere to get some 1/8 truggy wheels for racing.

but I virtually dont see any mention of diameter of the wheels.

they range from 3.2" to 4.0"

So wondering what the benefit of either going smaller or larger might be?

On the traxxas e REVO race build setup pages for wheels they suggest the proline LPR (dont make em anymore) but researching they are 4.0" but I also found an amazing deal for a set of Kyosho truggy wheels and tires but they are 3.2"... dono what to do.

Larger: Higher effective gear ratio; higher top speed at the expense of more current draw, more heat, less take-off torque, maybe less wheel-spin on launch. More top-heavy due to larger diameter putting it off the ground more.

Smaller: Lower effective gear ratio, slower top speed, more wheel-spin on launch but with sufficient grip could get out of the hole quicker. Less top-heavy/more stable. Might spin out easier coming out of a turn due to effective increase in torque unless tread pattern is such that grip increase makes up for it.

Re: 17mm truggy wheels - size important?

The 4.0" setups usually run low-profile tires, while the 3.2" rims usually have thicker (more monster-truck-like) tires: so the effective diameters may not be that different.

Go with the 4.0" rim setup: as that's what's used in truggy racing - so rims are easy to find and lots of tire tread patterns are available. Use 'zero-offset' rims (i.e. http://prolineracing.com/wheels/velo...fset-wheels/): there are also 1/2" offset rims that will make your Erevo an inch wider but you probably don't need the extra width and they can make your truck look a bit oversquare.
