I remember those days clearly, Maple was a small rural airport, with lots of dirt roads around. As the spawl pushes people outwards, rural aerodromes disappear. I actually visit Barrie Flying club and frequently rent the LSA up there owned by Eugene. Nice memories.

Place a folded paper towel over the affected area... Put your covering iron set to high over the paper towel... Oil and slim will come out... Keep changing the towel as the oil comes out and saturates the paper... Balsa rite is good but 2 things... Hasn't been available in Canada for some time.... Hazmat laws.... If you find some covet it well... If not get some Delux material "cover grip". It works a well as balsarite but it's water base, zero odour unlike the balsarite and water clean up.... In 5 minutes after applying start covering.... If you come out flying tomarow I can explain further but this way is easy and works really well... You can add some baby powered over the oily balsa / under the paper towel for better obsorption...

Burry the stab in kitty litter for a week or so. Personally I would just build a new stab.

If you saw the plane, you would probably just burn it... except that it flies really well. As a matter of fact, it flew perfectly with half the covering ripped off. Not worth replacing the stab, just patch her up, and go for it!

mix rubbing alcohol with corn starch to an almost runny paste. apply onto your balsa with a brush and allow to dry. The alcohol will soak in and mix with the oil and as it evaporates out, it mixes with the corn starch and dries. Just brush it off. reapply if you have too on really nasty areas.
