LiPo Battery Shipping

Does anyone know the status on shipping LiPo batteries (and electronics) across borders into Canada? I have heard conflicting reports that it is not possible to ship these batteries into Canada from US and internationally?

What is the scoop?

Re: LiPo Battery Shipping

I believe the latest is that they cannot be shipped by commercial airliners where people are on board as well. So that leaves companies like FedEx as an option where they have their own planes. Land is still doable ... so ground shipping still works.

HK for instance still ships lipos from both their international as well as their US warehouse to Canada. They will limit you based on what you put in your cart though. If you buy some huge model that is a box bigger than the shippers' limitations then HK presents you with a warning that they can't ship. Simply separate the batteries from the other 'big' stuff and it should go through.

What I usually do is add the batteries in first, then add the other stuff bit-by-bit. Checking now and then to see if the shipping error shows up (by doing a click through the 'continue' buttons on the cart, but not going all the way - just to where it shows you your actual shipping options).

Then, when you add that one item that breaks the limit you can either pull it out, or put the batteries separate, but you'll know which item is the 'big' item.

Hope this helps,

Re: LiPo Battery Shipping

I got a few batteries before the holidays from hobbyking via Fedex. The cost was the same as the old EMS option for the same weight and was way faster.

Things get expensive if you want to ship a large amount of batteries but for small stuff it is no issue.
