Well its on to a new project! I had basically finished the upper wing a few years ago and then other projects got in the way so it was put into storage. Just need to finish the ailerons, that's were this thread will begin. Then its on to the lower wing, tail feathers and then the fuse...... Plan is to use a Zenoah G62 with a Vogelsang gear drive. This will allow me to swing a 34x10 prop!
The color scheme will be Ernst Udet's DVII "LO" Jasta 4, June 1918. Solartex and latex paint..... Come along for the ride!

Very cool, and certainly a colour scheme that's hard to miss! Love to see people searching out unique aircraft colouring and markings.

Re: B-USA 1/3 Fokker DVII

I covered the ailerons with Solartex. I like to cover sub-assemblies once they have been built. In order to build this way you have to have a detailed plan for your build, and be committed to your colour scheme. I also have notes that I make before I start a section. Obviously sometimes you need to wait, but every little piece completed means it's closer to flying! I pre hinge and test fit all relevant parts before covering. I also pin all my hinges with round dowel.

Re: B-USA 1/3 Fokker DVII

Both ailerons are done.... The scallops are tricky to get the Solartex to smoothly go around....tack the trailing edge first and notch your covering around the scallops. Then tack the leading edge. Your covering iron is shaped round on the tip for a reason, PERFECT for round parts! Finish off with the heat gun.

Re: B-USA 1/3 Fokker DVII

Don, there was a program on Nova last mth about WW1 air power. They showcased TVAL, The Vintage Aviator Ltd., what an amazing operation. It's on my "list" of places to go see. I used the TVAL website during my Bishop Se5a build, simply amazing what they are doing there.
Ron, I don't think it will be completed by this summer.....you will have to contend with my DVIII for now.....I think you will have your hands full with that one!

Re: B-USA 1/3 Fokker DVII

Dave,
Half the fun for me is finding a model that is unique, and then researching the different colour schemes and variants. Mr Scale, Dave Platt, always says, get your information, research and documentation squared away before you start a project.
