Club Ring

My brother in law belongs to a hot rod organization and they have started a ring involving the local rod clubs in greeting out of towners. I wonder if there would be any interest in that sort of thing with the modelers. Each participating club would have a list of members willing to meet and greet anyone from out of town. As a group it is up to you how far you wish to extend hospitality. Invite them out to the field, show them several workshops (similar to garage crawls in the hot rod group), show the local hobby shops only your imagination would be your limit. My brother in law related a instance of a hot rodder from Austrailia who tied into thier ring and when he and his car arrived in the US every where he went he was well recieved and in lots of cases he was even put up for the night.

The reasoning behind this is I have loaded up my van with planes and spent 2 weeks on the road trying to make contact with local clubs. Unfortunatly MAAC only lists one contact per club and many were passed by as I could make no contact. Those I did visit were very receptive and some I was invited to spend the night others were only to happy after flying to show me thier work shop. There were days when flying was impossible and I was invited to someones work shop and several other members showed up and we spent a very pleasent afternoon shooting the breeze.

I think this has potential and wonder if anyone else has any ideas.

Good idea.

Hi Propworn,
I think that is a pretty good idea. Let's wait to see what kind of feedback your question gets...if it is positive, we might be able to add something to the clubs section with club contacts for trips like yours....
What do you think?

Club ring

I think its a good idea as well and our club "Morinville R/C Flyers Soc." would be into it. We're located just north of Edmonton Ab and already listed in club list.
