Re: Buying airplane stands in Canada ?

You are going to have to be careful here - from what I THINK you are looking for vs what you are being shown there is a great difference.

I think that you are looking for a stand for use at a field location what has been displayed are Excellent but they are for use in a garage or workshop. Note the small wheels and consider the weight of the unit - they will sink into the grass at an airfield.

Next consider if you plan to transport this beast to your flying site each day... If so; you DO NOT want some of these wonderful systems as they just take up too much space in your car or trailer.

If you are planning on taking it with you each day - be sure that it breaks down easily for transport.

NEXT - What size of Aircraft do you fly? Is this bench too small? Too Big?

Do you go to the same field all the time? If it is a club perhaps you can get them to build & provide a 'Meroke Start up Bench' these are excellent but they are a fixture at the field for all to use.

Re: Buying airplane stands in Canada ?

Want a super easy one that can be made for about eighty bucks and is very collapsible?
Buy one of these sawhorses
http://m.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/galv...-1997638p.html
Bolt a 2x4 to the top surface with a 3/4" hole drilled at each end or multiple holes drilled down the length of the 2x4 for different length fuselages. Then build two airplane cradles out of 3/4" diameter pvc tubing and a couple of T and L fittings. Stick them in the holes in the 2x4 and you have an adjustable folding airplane cradle. Lightweight too.

Re: Buying airplane stands in Canada ?

This is a good stand for the shop or the field. It folds into a compact bundle, and I have used it with models up to 12 lbs with no problems except a couple of bad wind gusts that came from nowhere. It was an easy project and I used materials that were taking up space except for the hardware (Lee Valley). If interested I can e-mail the drawings.

Re: Buying airplane stands in Canada ?

I just built a new one today. Sawhorse on sale at Home Depot for $38.99 and about fifteen bucks in tubing insulation and fittings. Twenty minutes work to build.

I hve looked at this before and looks like it would be a great stand to mount for both at field, in car, and at home

Re: Buying airplane stands in Canada ?

I checked out all the posts on this thread while looking for a work stand and went with the steel stand made by Richard Staron in Toronto.(rstaron@sympatico.ca).

I've had it a week and have had a few planes on it for repairs that I had been putting off. The stand is very well made - it's good for 60 size and up. The support arms can be turned sideways to work on wings or to support a board if working on anything smaller.

Just thought I'd share a couple photos in case anyone's been thinking about it.
