Could someone tell me what the useful life of a gallon of mixed gas would be?
I'm getting ready to fire up the 10cc engine I have but doubt I'll use an entire gallon of fuel.

Thank you in advance.

Re: Gas Shelf Life

I've always heard 1 month. I buy a gallon and whatever I don't burn in that time frame goes into my truck.

Re: Gas Shelf Life

I am using mixed gas in my chainsaw and 2S garden tiller that is over three years old with stabilizer. It is kept in a plastic container. All fuel keeps better in a sealable metal container. That is a tight fitting lid and no vent. If you think your gas is bad check your max RPM with a Tach and if it does not show any other bad effects, you are good to go.

Agreed...and a lot of 2 stroke oils have stabilizer in them already. If it doesn't have any ethanol and is sealed well you could probably get a couple years, with a high percentage ethanol they say a few months due to water absorption from the air. The better the seal on the container the longer it should last...you want to prevent evaporation and exposure to moisture rich air.

You can find lots of info on this with a Google search as well.

Re: Gas Shelf Life

I usually use it all summer; whatever doesn't get used goes into the supply can for the snowblower / lawnmower. Fresh gas every spring and as needed through the season.

"Hey" That's what I do (too).
Never had a problem with my snow blower yet.

On a serious note. Only my opinion, but I have heard the same thing about 2 stroke oil having a stabilizer additive. I throw my aging mixed gas into something that has room, mower, bus etc. If it makes you feel more confident Randy mix up only a gallon at a time. Fresh every 2-3 months. A liter of oil will still last more than a year.

Re: Gas Shelf Life

You can always tell when it goes bad. It smells like rotten eggs or a good beer fart.

Well, it does smell like rotten eggs.
